About Canes VenaticiCanes Venatici, the hunting dogs of Boötes, was created by Johannes Hevelius in 1690. The first dog is Asterion, the Starry, named for the little stars marking his body; the second dog is Chara, the Dear, so named because it is dear to the heart of its master. They help Boötes hunt or chase the Bear, Ursa Major, around the Pole.
